Finding the Right Knee Doctor After a Bad Experience: Kimberly Graham’s Patient Story

Kimberly Graham’s day-to-day life is fueled by movement. She lives on a farm where horses, cows, and other animals require her daily care and attention. In addition, she runs a dog boarding and grooming business from her home. Much of her life is spent either on her feet or on the back of a horse, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Her active lifestyle invigorates her, but it also requires strong and healthy knees, something she hasn’t always had.

Prior Knee Surgery with Poor Results

In 2001, Kimberly’s knee problems had reached a point of requiring surgical intervention. As a result, roughly half of her right knee’s meniscus was removed. The process was arduous and her recovery less than ideal. For twenty years, she made do with the outcome she was given. However, when her other knee became equally problematic in 2021, she knew she needed additional orthopedic care. Determined to achieve a better result the second time around, she sought medical attention from a new doctor and clinic: Dr. Arthur Hess of the Bone and Joint Clinic of Baton Rouge.

Second Knee Surgery with an Exceptional Outcome

Following her negative experience the first time around, Kimberly was understandably anxious to undergo a second knee surgery. This time, she would be having both knees scoped and cleaned out, a procedure known as knee arthroscopy and debridement. Fortunately, her selection of knee surgeon this time around would provide a vastly different outcome.

“Dr. Hess was unbelievably great, very competent, and caring,” says Kimberly. “My first surgery in 2001 left me with a lot of pain, incredible bruising, and a blood clot. This time, I never even had to take pain medication.”

Given her lifestyle, a long recovery was never in the plans for Kimberly. She was back to her normal daily routine in about three weeks, and she hasn’t looked back since. Her mobility has impressively rebounded, and her personal form of physical therapy comes from taking care of the animals she loves.

For now, she’s reveling in her body’s reclaimed capabilities, but if more orthopedic issues do arise, she knows precisely where she will seek care.
